"The Big Bang Theory" star Mayim Bialik has opened up about a period in her life when she felt unsafe in her own home. The 50-year-old actress said the fear came after she publicly questioned COVID-19 school closures and Black Lives Matter marches. Bialik described facing brutal scrutiny for her views, which sparked anger from many online.
In a recent interview, Bialik explained that she was not trying to dismiss the importance of the BLM movement or public health measures. Instead, she said she wanted to ask thoughtful questions about the long-term effects of keeping children out of school and the logistics of large gatherings during a pandemic. But the backlash was immediate and intense. She said the response made her feel physically threatened, leading her to worry about her safety inside her own house.
Bialik noted that the experience taught her a hard lesson about speaking out on divisive topics. She said she now thinks more carefully before sharing opinions that might be seen as controversial. The actress also reflected on how social media amplifies anger and makes it hard to have calm, reasonable discussions. While she stands by her right to ask questions, she admitted the fallout was more than she expected and left her feeling isolated.
