BIRMINGHAM, Ala., August 17, 2026 - Thompson Thrift, a national real estate firm known for large-scale multifamily projects, has unveiled plans for a new upscale apartment complex in Chelsea, a rapidly expanding suburb east of Birmingham. The project, named Rivet, will feature 300 Class A rental units and is slated for one of the most affluent corners of the metro area.
The development targets renters looking for high-end amenities and proximity to both nature and city jobs. Chelsea has seen steady population growth over the last decade, driven by good schools and new retail corridors. Thompson Thrift says the community will include a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom floor plans, with finishes like quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and walk-in closets as standard.
Beyond the units themselves, the property will offer a resort-style pool, a fitness center with modern equipment, a coworking lounge, and a dog park. The company also plans to add walking trails that connect to nearby green spaces. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the first move-ins projected for late 2028.
Thompson Thrift has completed similar projects across the Sun Belt and Midwest, and this marks its second venture in the greater Birmingham area. The firm cited strong job growth in healthcare, finance, and logistics as a key reason for expanding its footprint in the region. Local officials have welcomed the project, noting that it will add much-needed housing supply without straining existing infrastructure.
